A arte pode mudar vidas, mas infelizmente nem todos têm acesso a ela. Rafael Rodrigues sabe disso e decidiu fazer a diferença, fundando então a Escola de Breaking Primeiro Passo (First Step).
Rafael é dançarino desde os anos 90 e é integrante do Grupo de Breaking Consciente da Rocinha (GBCR), trabalha ensinando a modalidade em diferentes projetos sociais. Agora ele decidiu criar o próprio projeto. A Escola Primeiro Passo mira o objetivo de capacitar, preparar crianças e jovens e afastá-los de uma vida no mal caminho, os direcionando para um rumo mais saudável e positivo. Com as aulas, as crianças serão incentivadas a estudar, trabalhar em grupo, ao autoconhecimento e a desenvolver habilidade físicas diversas.
Desde a criação dessa modalidade (na década de 1970, em Nova Iorque, Estados Unidos) ela é usada como alternativa dos jovens para evitar conflitos entre gangues, e a ideia de trazes essas aulas gratuitas para as comunidades do rio é bem parecida: distrair as crianças de uma vida no crime. Aliás, Break Dance (também conhecida como Breaking, ou B-Boying) foi recentemente aprovada como a primeira modalidade a estrear nos Jogos Olímpicos de Paris, em 2024, dando assim a visão de um futuro para aqueles jovens que querem se dedicar à dança.
